What Our Experience Brought to the Pandemic
What Our Experience Brought to the Pandemic
Even so, industry leaders like himself do not stand idly by waiting for perfect conditions before making the next move. One key area he is confident will change is the preference of people when it comes to traveling. "I believe that travellers will look to visit resorts and destinations that offer more outdoor activities, services and facilities." Aside from that, he also feels that "[Smaller] and less crowded boutique-type properties that offer safe and clean surroundings will be preferred."
This elevated standard carried over as doors started to reopen and the tourism industry made its way to recovery. Juan Roca shares his advice to hotels preparing for the trends of staycations and short road trips saying, "housekeeping used to be 'invisible', now the department should be very visible. We need to communicate to the travelers the requirements and additional policies that are in place to ensure everyone’s safety and health". Hotels must have the ability to clearly relay their safety procedures not just for the health and safety of the travelers, but for their confidence and peace of mind during their stay. Connecting with the guests begins well before they even set foot on the properties.
Further speaking on the topic of recovery, Juan Roca imparts his wisdom from years of managing both budget and luxury hotels. He points out that, "it is expected for the luxury resorts to recover faster because their market has the ability to spend. There is also more confidence in the services and safety of luxury hotels". Focusing on improving safety measures and cleaning procedures will continue to grow the trust and confidence of the local market.
With local tourism leading the way to revival of the hospitality and tourism industry, AHG's presence for 20 years will continue to set an example in local tourism, even in the uncharted territory after the pandemic. Leaders like Juan Roca are able to use past experience not just to reinforce the same ideas, but to create and innovate new insights and strategies that will help moving forward.
As the country is gradually getting back on its feet, the recovery of our industry plays a part in our collective and holistic healing. Let the challenges we faced the past year make us even stronger in the future.

Roxaco's President and CEO on Hospitality Challenges and Investment Opportunities
Like many of us, SRE is quick to acknowledge that the world's recovery from a pandemic will be a long process that will require adaptability, patience and foresight. He shares, "Personally, I feel that the full recovery of the hospitality industry will begin taking place during the second half of 2021 as people and travellers begin to feel more confident that it will be safe for them to leave their homes."
With these fresh trends rising, investors are curious to know what's next for the hospitality industry. For SRE, investing in this industry will continue being a worthy and promising venture, especially given that the anticipation for travel and tourism is only heightened in a post-pandemic set-up. Hence, he thinks that "investors should not give up on the idea that investing in the hospitality industry is a good and sound investment. Now would be the ideal time to start planning and breaking ground on new projects that will be scheduled for opening toward the end of 2021 and beyond."
To adapt to this new normal, SRE shares that "Investments should be focused on well-located projects that are limited in size and offer travellers an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors as I feel that highly personalised adventure travel will top the list of most travellers. Investing in smaller projects with strong returns will be the name of the game at least over the next 5 years."
As a leader and decision-maker, SRE's insight on the hospital industry can be instrumental to the next steps of hotels and resorts all over the country. While it is true that so much was taken away by 2020, what we still have and can take hold of are the opportunities that the next years have in store for our industry.
May the next years be the best years of our industry.
